PROJECT 2A: DOUBLE EXPOSURE

Part 1: Double exposure

Figure 1.1 Double Exposure tutorial

For the first task, we need to follow the demonstration of this tutorial to start off with our double exposure in YouTube.

Part 2: "My Reflection" double exposure

Figure 1.5 Half-body Self-portrait

Our task is to take a self-portrait and create a double exposure picture using the same elements. We may added some new elements based on our creativity.

For more reference, I decided to look for more tutorials to find other methods that I can do for double exposure.

For this particular task, I decided to add some gradient map to change the overall color of the picture.

PROJECT 2B: POSTER DESIGN

1. Research
Throughout my research, I have already decided the UNSDG goal that I wish to use to proceed on my poster. I have chosen UNSDG goal #15 which is life on land.

Figure. 2.1 The Sustainable Development Goals information

I decided to make a research to learn more by what they meant life on land.

These are their targets for UNSDG goal #15:

Major targets:
- Conserve and restore terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems
- End deforestation and restore degraded forests
- End destruction and restore degraded land
- Ensure conservation of mountain ecosystems
- Protect biodiversity and natural habitats
- Protect access to genetic resources and fair sharing of the benefits
- Eliminate poaching and trafficking of protected species
- Prevent invasive alien species on land and in water ecosystems
- Integrate ecosystem and biodiversity in government planning

Additional Targets:
- Increase financial resources to conserve and sustainability use ecosystem and biodiversity
- Finance and incentivize sustainable forest management
- Combat global poaching and trafficking

Summary

I have selected "Life on Land" as my UNSDG goal for my design poster project. I aim to create a visually compelling poster that addresses that issues of trash on the land. I decided to combine a mixture of nature and symbols of waste pollution. Through this poster, I wanted to raise awareness how the pollution in certain areas have substantially grown worse. I wanted to convey a message that our future will turn for the worse if we do not take action. This way the environment and the whole ecosystem will be in jeopardy.

Figure. 2.7 Layers Week - 8 (26/5/2023)

For each elements, I decided to make some image adjustments by changing the color tone, saturation, exposure and etc to ensure neither of them stands out and to maintain harmony and balance. I also make some adjustments to the levels and desaturate certain image to match the color. In addition, I decided to add some double exposure on the tiger for this project that I learned from the previous tasks. I decided to create something similar to a movie poster so I tried to keep it vague and simple.

Concept

This poster is generally based on " Life on Land". The reason why I choose these cool color tones is to show that our future will simply turn dull and dark if the pollution in our world is taken as a pinch of salt. I create a double exposure on the tiger to show that these pollution will affect their habitat and give off that slightly fading effect which shows that our tigers are facing near extinction. It is important to keep the environment clean and safe to ensure a healthy ecosystem. I decided to go for a snow theme because it matches the mood of the color that I was looking for.

I only added little fonts to it because I believe sometimes less is more. It is important to send a message but I believe visual speaks louder than words. I want the viewers to have their own interpretation. I hope that the audience would realized that they should not take things lightly and think more about the negative impacts of waste pollution to our future.

FEEDBACK

Week 9: Ensure that the poster mostly consist of photographic elements. Do not use too much illustration in it.

REFLECTION

Experience
Experiencing double exposure for the first time was a tough nut to crack. It took me quite a couple of hours to complete it because it is something that I never heard or done before. However, despite the challenges I was determined to finish it because the effects are so cool and interesting thus it would be really awesome if I could train myself and continue to master it. I managed to get a hang of it but I know that this will not be the end of it and I still have so much to learn. It is a useful skill to have because I was able to include it in my poster project which brings more impact on the visual and does not make it too plain. The poster also taught me a valuable lesson on how important it is to maintain our environment clean and safe. Overall, it was a tough but enjoyable experience. It reminds me how art can be expressive in so many ways.

Observation
Based on my observation, it is important to keep tract of the layers and name them to avoid confusion. It also requires precision and a keen eye to mask the objects.

Findings
I realized that I still need some training on masking the objects and requires more patience as sometimes I tend to lose them. Perfection is not something that I tried to emphasis on but sometimes it is necessary to include that in my work. It is important to balance between perfection and creativity.
