Project 4: Cinemograph - Self-titled
Self-titled is an exploration project for the students to express their own individuality and reflect their personality into digital art self-expression. The main idea is to build up
self-confidence and discover their interest.

This design features Alice in Wonderland which adds a lot of fun elements and colors into it. I was inspired by the theme and I wanted to make a poster that relies on peculiarity and excitement. This is one of my favorite shows and a part of my individuality imagine what if I could see and explore their world. Even with a colorful theme, overall the composition is balanced with harmony. Each characters are doing a form of action on their own and this gives me an idea on how I want to pose for the poster.

This design features Alice in Wonderland which adds a lot of fun elements and colors into it. I was inspired by the theme and I wanted to make a poster that relies on peculiarity and excitement. This is one of my favorite shows and a part of my individuality imagine what if I could see and explore their world. Even with a colorful theme, overall the composition is balanced with harmony. Each characters are doing a form of action on their own and this gives me an idea on how I want to pose for the poster.
For this case study, I wanted to observe what kind of elements that I could add into the composition to give that wonderland theme. Once I have set down my ideas, I continue to explore more pictures for references.

In this case study, I have already set the ideas of what kind of a place that I wish to immersed myself in the poster. I wanted to do something related to flying and therefore I took some inspiration from this image in order to set my background as the sky in the poster. Overall, it is a colorful image and I confirmed that colorful is going to be a part of the theme in my project.

In this case study, I have already set the ideas of what kind of a place that I wish to immersed myself in the poster. I wanted to do something related to flying and therefore I took some inspiration from this image in order to set my background as the sky in the poster. Overall, it is a colorful image and I confirmed that colorful is going to be a part of the theme in my project.

In my first ideation, I imagined myself to sit on a flying chair exploring the beautiful serene clouds like a magic carpet. I decided to relate it with wonderland and fantasy theme. I wanted to add some parts of my favorite things which helps to scream a lot about my identity. I added a few different colors for representation to show that this is going to be a fun poster.

With this rough sketch, I imagined myself opening a mysterious box that explodes a group of kittens which acts like a surprise present. I was planning to make a small animation to that if I decided to go with this development.
Summary
In short, I decided to go for sketch #1 as my final poster. Throughout this project, I merely wanted to express my creativity and thoughts if I was in a different dimension. I also wanted to include my favorite things as I believe that it is more interesting to introduce yourself to another person.
4. Photographs

Based on the sketch, I decided to make a pose that follows that action. With the help of my friend, I took portrait pictures on a chair with a plain background to make the edit more convenient.

Based on my exploration, I decided to cut a lot of different elements and add it into my poster composition. Since it is a wonderland theme, I had to include a lot of random elements to give that freedom and fantasy vibe.

I masked myself out carefully and try to set up on top of my initial background. I was not happy with how it looks so I decided to take a different angle by changing the background.

Once I was satisfied with the background, I decided to change the color of the clouds to set the mood that I was looking for.

For the final step, I added all the elements I found and make some image adjustments to certain objects to achieve the desired effect that I was looking for.

After placing all the images, I played around with the filters and hues. To achieve that harmony and movement, I placed them in different angles and ensure that none of the images stands out strikingly. By adding different colors, it helps to build a contrast from the background.

Summary

6. Animating

I decided to add a lot of keyframes to each of the objects to give that flying and floating effect in the position, scale, rotations and etc. It took me quite a while to work on every detail but it turned out the way that I expected it to be. Organizing the files help me to avoid confusion and saved a lot of my time.

For the final step, I decided to add some music into the animation to enhance the overall experience. I have chosen "Quinn and Valor from League of Legends" which express freedom and bravery of the character. "My Wonderland" reflects the idea about having freedom, being myself and happiness. With the adjustments on the music, I decided to add different keyframes by lowering and increasing the volume in certain areas to make it sound natural and not like an explosion.

Concept
I portray myself as an adventurer that ventures a different world or dimension that I wish to see. It expresses one of my deepest desire to explore a magical world, a place where I can be myself in. It is about freedom and happiness. From this video, I want to be able to express myself more clearly and not be restricted by judgement and rules thus doing the things I loved. It is another daydream which strays from the path of reality. "My Wonderland" is just another place that brings a sense of comfort and peace and sometimes it is okay to forget about reality and explores my creativity.

FEEDBACK
Week 12: Try to balance your composition by having at least 50% of photography elements and do not animate too much.
Findings
I found out that maybe putting a lot of elements may not be the wisest decision. But with proper execution, it feels like it comes out of a movie. It require a tremendous amount of patience but somehow I find it really fun working with every single keyframes and gives me a sense of accomplishment in completing it.
REFLECTION
I observed that sometimes it is important to be precise with the movement that you were hoping for. A slight mistake on the angle and position really gives off a different effect.Experience
From this experience, I applied my knowledge and skills from my previous tasks and combined into a composition that I am satisfied with. I realized that with the right technique it is important to include them to achieve great results. Initially, I was afraid to start with After Effects because I was slightly overwhelmed with the complex tools that I need to use. However, with the help of the lecturer and tutorials, I was able to surpass that and become more accustomed to the basics. I know that there are more methods for me to discover to give that extraordinary effect but I believe that it is not something that can be mastered in a day. The animation in the end turns out to be better than I expected and the final result makes it really worthwhile. The process of animation has become the first step to discover more about the creative media world and it is super awesome to find out how it works.
