Group Formation & Contextual Research
In the first week, we were tasked to form a group with other specialization and chose our favorite topic to work with for the whole semester.

Fig 1.1 Group Formation List

After forming the group, we had a meeting with Dr. Leong from Taylor's Impact Lab where she briefed about her current issues with Food Aid. We made a short summary of note during the meeting.

For easier discussion and planning, Mr. Mike instructed us to use a Miro Board that had been set up to fill up or insights and findings.

We began our project by carrying our own contextual research individually to gather a lot of information about Food Aid Foundation. Below are my contextual research regarding what Food Aid is all about such as their visions and missions.

After gathering each information from individual research, we summarized our research data into similar categories:

Fig 1.5 Contextual Research Summary

During the insights stage, we compiled findings from each team member and grouped them into related topics. From there, we identified five key themes addressing the current challenges faced by Impact Lab and Food Aid Foundation.

Fig 1.7 Key Themes (The "what")

After finalizing the key themes, we moved towards writing down the insight statements.

Fig 1.8 Insight Statements

After the insight stage, we figured out on the user, need and insight to come up with a problem statement.

Fig 1.9 Problem Statement

Our main issue was that people in low-income communities need a way to understand how financial constraints and limited nutritional awareness affect their access to healthy eating, as they often lack both nutrition knowledge and reliable access to food aid.

After that, based on our problem statement, we came up with "How Might We?" questions where we think about possible solutions in order to find more opportunities and ideas for our design project.

User Persona (Target Audience)
To specify our target audience and to deepen our understanding about Food Aid Foundation, we prepared some interview questions with Dr. Leong.

Fig 2.2 Questions for Impact Lab interview

Below are the answers we gathered from the questions.

Fig 2.3 Answers from the interview

After the interview, we narrowed down our target audiences into 3 age groups; kids, parents and especially elderly mentioned by Dr. Leong. We also provided some character traits for each target audience to begin our persona development.

Once we have created our personas, we were told by Mr. Mike to have a detailed information like age/gender, and also referred to real life cases to enhance our persona building.

Johanna created an empathy map for each persona before developing a persona character chart.

Food Aid Project Design Proposal
For our group's design proposal, our design direction was lead by Johanna as we participated to assist her in helping to get our ideal proposal.

We also creating a poll to vote for a color scheme.

Gantt Chart & Customer Journey Mapping

After our proposal, Mr. Mike advised us to create mock-ups for advertising posters, flyers, digital media (animation, microsite), and most importantly, the app prototype.

We started by completing the customer journey map, outlining the user experience from pre-launch to follow-up, and planned marketing strategies using both physical and digital media to promote the Nutra app.

Fig 3.2 Completed Customer Journey Mapping

After completing the customer journey map, we used a provided Gantt chart to break down our tasks into smaller roles and track progress as we completed them. My task was mainly part of the promotional video by animating and illustrating. In addition, I was also tasked to help with the voice overs and create the animation for the logo.

Nutra App Design Prototype
This is our Nutra app prototype, designed in Figma, featuring the functions we proposed in our presentation: recipes, post/video sharing, recipe downloads and favorites, and geo-tagging.

Nutra Microsite

For the Nutra microsite, we received feedback that our initial design was too dark and lacked consistency in style and color usage compared to the app design. To address this, we made several changes to improve visual harmony.

Collateral Mock-Up
For the collateral part, my groupmates were in charged of designing the posters and public transportation advertising. This also include banners for Nutra's app event notification pop ups and point exchange.

Logo Animation
The logo animation was made in After Effects. By keeping in mind of our design direction and goals, I aimed to present a theme that felt bubbly, free-spirited, and friendly in tone.

Food Aid Project Final Presentation
For the final stage, we put together a presentation slide showcasing all the visuals, prototypes, and mock-ups we had developed over the past weeks.

We also produced new visuals and mock-ups based on the plans outlined in our customer journey map.

REFLECTION

Experience: Throughout the past weeks, my work on the Nutra project spanned a wide range of tasks from illustrating and animating the logo to producing promotional videos and supporting the overall visual direction. I also played a role in contextual research and assisting my team for design direction. Alongside these creative responsibilities, I presented sections of  the data interviews, brand identity and marketing strategies. The process was not without its challenges such as coordinating team efforts, aligning with client needs, and ensuring consistent branding but it allowed me to gain meaningful experience in both collaborative teamwork and professional client engagement.

Observation:
Our group work underscored the importance of maintaining clear communication and strong project management to ensure alignment among all members. Achieving visual consistency across different platforms demanded both adaptability and a keen eye for detail. While the variety of perspectives within the team enhanced the creative process, it also required thoughtful coordination to merge ideas effectively. Working remotely added an extra layer of challenge in keeping efforts and timelines synchronized.

Findings: I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of designing with the end user in mind, particularly when addressing the needs of underprivileged communities. I found that collaboration works best when communication flows openly and responsibilities are well-defined. Maintaining a consistent design across different platforms not only improves the user experience but also strengthens the project’s overall professionalism.
